You’ve been working at full speed and you know you need a break—but you can’t fit a week-long (or longer!) vacation into your schedule right now. That doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a relaxing, replenishing escape! Cruises are the ideal way to vacation when you only have time for a quick getaway, since you can frequently find itineraries that are only two or three nights long.
Simply step on your ship and forget about all of your worries for a weekend—you’ll be surprised how recharged you feel when you make it back into the office. We love taking short cruise escapes ourselves (we call them our “sanity checks”!). If you only have time for a short cruise vacation, here are three outstanding quick itineraries we recommend:
Cruise to … Key West
Set sail to a tropical paradise that’s just 90 miles from mainland U.S—many cruise lines offer three- to four-night cruises to this Florida gem. Stroll off your ship to swim in pristine turquoise waters, snap a pic at the iconic Southernmost Point buoy, meander through Key West’s quaint old town and high-energy Duval Street, and try a slice (or two!) of world-famous key lime pie.
A bonus? If you choose a closed-loop cruise to Key West—meaning you depart from and return to the same U.S. port—you don’t need a passport to hop on your cruise! Or, if you’re looking for a little more variety, join us and fellow Tribe of the Sunset travelers on our upcoming escorted cruise on Virgin Voyages, setting sail from Miami to Bimini, Bahamas, and Key West on a four-night itinerary—learn more right here.
Cruise to … St. Maarten
This idyllic island in the Eastern Caribbean is the perfect mix of pristine beaches and a colorful port with Dutch influences (the island is a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands); quite a few cruises stop here on itineraries that are just three to four days long. St. Maarten was the highlight on one of our recent Caribbean cruises—while the white-sand beaches were to-die-for, we really fell in love with the friendliness of the locals. In fact, one of the locals gave us a great tip to spend the day at a nearby hotel, and it was the ideal way to pass time on this gorgeous island!
Cruise to … CocoCay
CocoCay is a private island in the Bahamas that is owned by Royal Caribbean—which means the only way to experience the island is to sail there with Royal Caribbean. We highly recommend it; in fact, we’ve visited the island on Royal Caribbean cruises several times. On the island you’ll find a thrilling waterpark, the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, and seven different stretches of powder-white sand beaches to sink your toes into.
If you want a more intimate and upscale private island experience at CocoCay, you can upgrade to Coco Beach Club, an adults-only oasis on a palm-fringed beach with a gorgeous infinity pool. We absolutely loved our time at the elevated beach club, and we even added on a special dining experience that included an upscale dinner right on the beach. You can also reserve one of the beach club’s unique overwater cabanas for the day!
